Patient Communication Strategy

“Communication is two way – you need to communicate with  us to help us communicate with you.”

Scott Road Medical Centre is committed to constantly improving the ways in which it communicates with patients and also the ways in which patients communicate with the practice.

Communication from Scott Road Medical Centre to patients

The notice boards in all the waiting rooms will be clearly and uniformly labelled.  The Out of Hours telephone number will be displayed in all areas.

There will be dedicated notice boards for the following

  • Patient Participation Group
  • Scott Road Medical Centre policies
  • “Did you know this about SRMC?”
  • Scott Road Newsletter board

Copies of which will be available by this board

  • Selby Area News
  • Hull York Medical School (HYMS)
  • Patient information

The Same Day Care Area waiting room will have notices clearly explaining how the Same Day Care system works and advising that there may be delays due to medical emergencies. (Autumn 2012)

The Scott Road Newsletterwill be produced quarterly and contain information of relevance to patients. It will have the headline – ‘We are always looking at ways to improve our communication with patients’ – if you have any feedback on our service or ideas please put these in the box in reception

The practice handbook is currently given to new patients when they register with the practice and will, in future, also be given to newly pregnant women at their booking appointment with the midwife.  In time it will be available on the revised website (with immediate effect)

The screen in the main waiting room is to be adjusted so that it is more easily seen and the content will be updated fortnightly (completed)

Leaflets appropriate for children and young families will be placed by the children’s corner in the main waiting room (late 2012)

Patients’ frequently asked questions (FAQs) along with the replies will be available on the website and in folders in each of the three waiting rooms (end of September).

The practice headed notepaper has been amended to include the names of salaried GPs in addition to GP Partners (completed)

It is acknowledged that the telephone system needs to be reviewed and the practice is liaising with the PCT about this (as soon as the PCT have the capacity to support this)

We are revising the practice website so that it can be kept up to date

(Autumn 12)
