Child Vaccinations

Your child will be invited in for vaccinations according to the current UK vaccination schedule. Click here for Vaccination Advice.

Cervical Smears

All women aged 25-65 are now offered a cervical smear test by the NHS

  • Women between the ages of 25 – 49 years will be invited every 3 years
  • Women between the ages of 50 – 64 will be called every 5 years
  • Women 65 and older will only be invited if there has been abnormal smears in the past.

You will receive a letter from the Health Authority on behalf of the Practice asking you to make an appointment with the Practice Nurse at the surgery for this test to be done. An information leaflet will also be sent to you explaining this procedure.

Regular smear tests are important, they pick up the early warning signals that could save your life.

See the NHS cancer screening website for more information.

Contraception

The GPs provide a full range of contraceptive services. We are always happy to discuss all aspects of family planning. Once your contraceptive service is set up, some of the routine checks can be done by the Practice Nurses. We have lots of young people in this practice and both the doctors and the nurses are especially experienced in dealing with contraception in young people.

Urgent “morning after” contraception is available at the minor injuries unit at Selby War Memorial Hospital. (It can be used up to 72 hours after having sex)

Minor Surgery

Most of the GPs perform Minor Surgical Operations at Selby Hospital.

You need to see your GP in a routine appointment to discuss this. Examples of the types of procedures we do are:

  • Ingrowing toenail surgery
  • Removal of moles and skin tags
  • Removal of Cysts

What about Verruccas and Warts? If these need surgical treatment we can do this for you using Cryotherapy (freezing using liquid nitrogen). This is done by us at Selby Hospital.

The GPs will be happy to have a look at any warts or verruccas you are worried about and advise you on the best treatment in your case. Please see the GP in a routine appointment at Scott Road to discuss.

We can plan your travel vaccinations for you.

Sickness Certification

The self-certificate system was brought in to stop GP surgeries being overwhelmed with people with minor illnesses who needed a sick note.
You are allowed up to 7 continuous working days off work on a self-certificate. You can get these from your employer (usually on return to work). We do not issue sick notes for periods of absence of less than 7 days. We also cannot issue sick notes retrospectively without proof that you have been ill.

You usually need an appointment with your usual doctor if you feel you need a sick note - the only exception to this is if you have been recommended to stay off work by a specialist and we have documentation to prove this.
