GP Registrars

In August 2009 we restarted GP training. We will have qualified doctors called GP Registrars, who want to be GPs, working with us for up to six months at a time . Most will have done at least two years in hospital medicine first and are starting or partway through a GP training scheme which is based in York. Dr O'Connell is our GP trainer and has overall responsibility for the trainees though at various times in the week they will be supervised by other GPs. The Registrar may call or send messages to their supervising doctor for advice and he or she may come through and see you too. Often the Registrar will know how to look after you and this isn't necessary. If you're seeing a supervising doctor you may notice they get instant messages on their screen which means they may need to interrupt your consultation to give the Registrar some advice. We hope interruptions will be kept to a minimum.

Once a week the registars have protected time for tutorials so this will mean Dr O'Connell or one of the other GPs isn't able to do a surgery at this time.

GP Registrars often have to video their consultations, so we can see how they're doing. If you can help us all by agreeing to this it would be very helpful. You will be asked to sign a consent form if we're videoing and this details what happens with the recordings.

Please do let us know of any comments or compliments you want to make about your experience of seeing one of our GP Registrars. If you want to rebook appointments with the registrar you should be able to do so after their first month here and then you can have some continuity, for up to five more months with that doctor.
