Foundation Programme

The practice is taking part in the Foundation Programme for newly qualified doctors and we have Year 2 (F2) Doctors working in the practice.

Foundation Doctors have completed their medical degrees at university and worked for one year in hospital medicine (as a Foundation Year 1 doctor) and are now spending four months at Scott Road Medical Centre before deciding on their chosen career specialty.

The Foundation Programme is a new project that gives junior doctors the opportunity to experience more branches of medicine than has been previously possible.

It is hoped that by August 2007 80% of all new graduates will be able to spend four months in general practice. Even if they don’t then train as GPs they will have a better understanding of what it is like to see patients outside of hospitals.

Drs O’Connell and Lord are the supervisors and the F2 doctor will often discuss the consultation you’ve had with one of these partners.

Further information on this scheme may be found on the Modernising Medical Careers website.

Since August 2008 we haven't had a Foundation Doctor as we have started GP training again, see here.
