Been off sick?

If you are off work for 7 days or less, you do not need to give your employer a fit note or any other proof of sickness from a healthcare professional.

Your employer may require you to complete a self-certification form when you return to work. If you need to claim SSP from your employer you can use this form – SC2 from the gov.uk website.

Fit notes and proof of sickness

Employees must give their employer a 'fit note' (sometimes called a sick note) if they’ve been ill for more than 7 days in a row and have taken sick leave. This includes non-working days, such as weekends and bank holidays.

The fit note will say the employee is either 'not fit for work' or 'may be fit for work'. For more information visit gov.uk/taking-sick-leave.

If you need a fit note, you can request one online via Klinik
